To increase the turnover of the existing Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Airport, the idea of extending the airport facilities idea was purposed in 2002 by Pervez Musharraf. The CCA asked the British team to design the new architecture of the airport. They decided to extended land, capacities of passengers, facilities, commercial areas and other additional facilities. The airport is capable of handling fuel farm, fire, crash, rescue facility, and complex traffic control system. It is decided to make this airport Pakistan’s second biggest airport acting as the busiest airport.

The capacity of New Islamabad airport is currently15 Million Passengers per years in the first phase. This time, the new airport is ready to serve 25 Million passengers per years.

Reserved Land for the Airport:

The land for New Islamabad International is 2833 acres is reserved for making the third runway. The building of airport has been constructed on 180,000 m2 and build on the modular terminal. A momentous portion is reserved for commercial purpose which is expected to generate greater revenue.

The airport is located in just a few kilometers away from the Islamabad city located in the Attock district area. This airport is based on M1/M2 motorways. This project is facilitating both the Islamabad and Rawalpindi cities.
