Significant Reduction in Driving License Fees in Punjab

Driving License Fees have a reduction! In a positive development, the residents of Punjab received a favorable announcement on the first day of 2024. The interim Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, has provided significant relief by delaying the implementation of the proposed hike in driving license fees.

Earlier in December 2023, the Punjab government declared that the increased license fees would be enforced starting January 1, 2024. However, in a recent update, the deadline has been pushed back to January 9, allowing citizens a grace period to obtain their licenses at the existing fee rates.

This decision follows the earlier move by the interim government to raise Driving License Fees for both cars and motorcycles substantially. The fee for obtaining a driver’s license had surged by 1566%, from Rs. 60 to Rs. 1000. Nevertheless, Chief Minister Naqvi’s announcement of a temporary reprieve brings much-needed relief to the public.

As per the information shared on the Lahore City Traffic Police’s Twitter account, the fees will now be collected on an annual basis instead of the previous five-year cycle. This change comes in the midst of a rigorous crackdown by the traffic police against drivers without licenses in Lahore and other cities across Punjab.

The recent initiative was launched following a tragic car accident caused by a teenage driver, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of six individuals from the same family. In response to heightened law enforcement efforts, an unprecedented number of people have sought learner and driving licenses in the past few months.

On December 5, the police reported issuing a remarkable 74,000 learner permits in a single day in Punjab. The bustling provincial capital led the way, with an astonishing 24,000 licenses issued, indicating a significant surge in compliance with licensing regulations.
