First Time Qualifiers

After their unique and heart-winning performance during the 2023 Cricket World Cup, Afghanistan has qualified for their first-ever Champions Trophy. The team is captained by Hashmatullah Shahidi. They are riding high on the feeling of playing their first-ever semi-final in an ICC tournament, which is the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. While they lost the match, they had a huge boost to their confidence, and that will come in handy for their performance in this tournament.

Format of the Tournament

The format of the tournament has been set to remain the same. This setup has been in use since 2006, and it will remain the same until there are eight teams that play in the tournament. Each team will play against the rest of the teams in the group once. The top two teams of each group will then advance to the semi-finals. The winners of those matches will play the final, and one team will take the trophy home.
