ChatGPT has been knocking on Google’s doors for some time now. Launched in 2022, this Open API software has revolutionized language models and how people search online. There was a time when Google was the go-to for research and browsing, but ChatGPT has taken over.
Now, the creator of Gmail has made some comments about both platforms that are ringing alarm bells for Google and its current predicament. Paul Buchheit the creator of Gmail has predicted that the Open API backed by artificial intelligence will overtake the main source of information very soon.
He took to his Twitter and said:
“The way I imagine this happening is that the URL/Search bar of the browser gets replaced with AI that autocompletes my thought/question as I type it while also providing the best answer (which may be a link to a website or product). The old search engine backend will be used by the AI to gather relevant information and links, which will then be summarized for the user. It’s like asking a professional human researcher to do the work, except the AI will instantly do what would take many minutes for a human.”
He further said that by 2025, Google would be gone. His exact words are” a year or two away from total disruption.” The search engine will be swallowed whole by A.I. as a whole, which is a great concern for search engine platforms.
Google may be only a year or two away from total disruption. AI will eliminate the Search Engine Result Page, which is where they make most of their money.
Even if they catch up on AI, they can't fully deploy it without destroying the most valuable part of their business! https://t.co/jtq25LXdkj

Open AI has already struck a deal with Microsoft and ChatGPT will soon be a part of Bing’s search engine. However, Google is ready to counterattack by launching its own A.I. ChatGPT alternative very soon. Even if they do make their own alternative, it looks like the days of Google’s work frame are limited.
No one wants to look at multiple links, click different windows to find answers, and gather information. The Open AI ChatGPT has simplified things too much for things to go back to how they were before. It is only a matter of time before people completely move away from Google to use Open AI software as a primary source of information.
