PM Shahbaz Sharif Removed Ramiz Raja as PCB Chairman

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has removed Ramiz Raja as the Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman. The news broke today amid the chaos and rumors surrounding Ramiz Raja’s position circling the news like wildfire for weeks now.

The reason behind his sacking was deemed to be the current poor performance of the Pakistani Cricket team which they lost to Zimbabwe in the 2022 T20 World Cup and then lost the home series to England for the first time in history.

According to the sources, Najam Sethi, the previous Chairman who was behind the hard work of the Pakistan Super League has been reappointed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Here is everything we know so far.

Ramiz Raja Removed as PCB Chairman

The decision to remove Ramiz Raja as PCB Chairman was finalized today and the appointment of Najam Sethi as the new Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board was done in the same sitting. The board of governors will be notified about the change in the top seat today as well.

The Prime Minister’s office will be releasing four notifications today regarding the new appointment. According to one of those notifications, the 2019 Constitute of the Cricket Board will be abolished. The second notification will also remove the two other names that were nominated for the Chairmanship of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

The third notification is aimed at restoring the 2014 constitution of the Pakistan Cricket Board. The final notification will then notify the establishment to make the new changes to run the existing board.

Ramiz Raja previously spoke about his position as the PCB Chairman and said he had received the “green signal” to keep working as the PCB Chairman. He was elected as the Chairman of the Cricket Board back on 13th September 2021 when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was in power.

He replaced Ehsan Mani who had stepped down as the chairman after his three-year term ended. Asad Ali Khan will also be removed as part of the sacking and will be replaced by Shakil Sheikh.
