Apple unveiled the high-end Apple Watch Ultra in Sep 2022. The Apple Watch Ultra is made to compete with costlier smart watches from manufacturers like Garmin and is targeted at athletes and sports lovers who need their devices to perform better in sports and have longer battery spans.
Features
Display
The Apple Watch Ultra has a light-weight aerospace grade titanium case, sapphire crystal display, deeply grooved digital crown, large diameter, an additional physical button, and a space for the side button.
Action Button
It is the brightest Apple Watch until now, with a maximum brightness of 2000 nits, making it simple to see during daytime. There is an option to customize action button to initiate Workouts, setup Compass Waypoints, mark segments and many other things. Its action button is made in international orange for visibility under water and in dark.
Microphones
Three in-built microphones enhance audio quality, and a beamforming technology captures audio while cutting down on background noise even in busy outdoor environments. There is an 86-decibel siren with two SOS patterns available.
Battery
Apple was able to fit a larger battery within the larger 49mm body. With a new low-power level, the Apple Watch Ultra’s battery life can last up to sixty hours for multi-day adventures. It can last up to 36 hours on a one-time charge.
GPS
The Apple Watch Ultra has the most accurate GPS of any Apple Watch, providing pace, route data, and precise distance for competing and training. It integrates both the L1 & L5 frequencies and includes new location algorithms.
Temperature Sensors
The Apple Watch Ultra can survive a broader temperature range to meet more challenging environments. It functions in temperatures ranging from 55 degrees Celsius to -20 degrees Celsius. The watch is accredited to MIL-STD-810H, a standard used by producers of rugged equipment and by the military.
Wayfinder
For the Apple Watch Ultra, Apple created a unique Wayfinder watch face with a built-in navigator and room for up to eight features. For greater visibility at night, the watch face can be adjusted for the trail, mountain, and ocean. A place can be marked using Compass Waypoints on the Apple Watch Ultra, and a feature called Backtrack uses GPS to build a trail that the user can follow to retrace their steps if they become lost.
Health Trackers
The Apple Watch Ultra contains all of the functionality offered by the Apple Watch Series 8 in addition to functions created for exploration and adventure. It provides the same fitness tracking choices and measures blood oxygen levels, heart rate, sleep, and can take ECG readings. A cellular plan is required to access all features on all Apple Watch Ultra variants, which all contain cellular connectivity.
Sport Bands
The Trail Loop, Alpine Loop, and Ocean Band are 3 new sport-focused bands for the Apple Watch Ultra that are also compatible with earlier bands made for 44 & 45mm Apple Watches. The Alpine Loop band has high-strength yarn and a woven pattern built for durability, while the Trail Loop band is the slimmest Apple Watch band until now.
