‘Meray Pass Tum Ho’ star Hira Mani is probably receiving a lot of backlash for what could be regarded as an ignorant statement regarding American citizens during the coronavirus pandemic. The actress’s comments were picked up by social media page ‘Trending in Pakistan’ in which the individual says the following.
“There’s a strict curfew here [Texas], big brands are closed, streets are empty. I went to a mall here, First Colony and there, all the Pakistani people, salesgirls were present and all white people were on leave; they turned out to be quite cowardly, we’re really cool.”
Naturally, her statement was spotted by some Twitter users, and as ignorant statements go, they were quick to provide their own feedback on the matter.
Here’s another thought shared by someone else, pointing out that Hira has donned the mask incorrectly.
What can you do as a Pakistani citizen to spread more awareness related to coronavirus?
The coronavirus outbreak certainly shouldn’t be taken lightly. A lot of citizens living overseas have commented that social distancing has become a normal practice and rightly so. According to previous reports, the Italian government has reported around 30,000 active cases, and more than 3,000 people have apparently died thanks to COVID-19. In light of these recent events, it’s important to practice as much of a precaution as you can.
Firstly, if you haven’t purchased any sanitizers, now is the time to do so, followed by an N95 mask. It’s unlikely that you’ll find these in stock everywhere and at reasonable prices, so it might take a while before acquire find one. Secondly, if you head out and return; even if it’s a short trip, it’s important that you rinse your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds.
Unnecessary interaction with people and family relatives is also discouraged at this time. While our culture does promote large family gatherings, it’s important to be safe than sorry.
Hopefully, Hira Mani will get the idea and prevent such statements from being published on her social media accounts in the future.
