She said

That was the turning point of her life, where she decided to do something that was her passion. She quit her 6-figured job and became a social activist. Her story is inspirational not only because it’s unique but also because Soomro is not an educationist, a development sector professional or a policy student.

The idea of quitting your job to dedicate yourself to a cause is often romanticized and easier said than done.

But, she did it. She moved to Misgar, a beautiful small town without any connection to life outside it, in Gilgit-Baltistan near the Afghanistan-Pakistan-China border.

“I rented that hut for Rs 2,500 a month, an amount that doesn’t get you a three-piece suit in Islamabad. That is how simple and basic everything is in Misgar. We set up a kitchen tent on the lawn since the weather was still good and got all our stuff from Hunza.”

For the children of Misgar, Soomro has opened a world of opportunities. She has taught them more than any book or curriculum ever could; she has shown them how to imagine and think, Moreover, she has informed them about the world beyond Misgar. And by doing so, she has broadened their perspectives. Soomro may leave Misgar one day but her gift will live through the children she has touched.

Faisal Edhi, head of Edhi Foundation and son of late philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, has announced the relaunch of Edhi Air Ambulance Service. Moreover, he said that the Edhi foundation will soon start flying the aircraft to rescue patients during emergencies. The main aim here is to rescue patients through aircraft. As a late philanthropist, Abdul Sattar Edhi used to drive ambulances from their service decades ago.

Edhi Air Ambulance to be Started Soon

Faisal Edhi, head of Edhi Foundation and son of late philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, has announced the relaunch of Edhi Air Ambulance Service.

Furthermore, he said that he is a trained pilot.

“I completed 40 hours of flying with my instructor and two hours of solo flight during my training at a flying school in England in 2001.”

However, he could not get a license because of some issues. Faisal added that later he got busy with work and never got the chance to obtain the license.

“I had the dream of taking the Edhi Foundation to calamity-hit areas to rescue patients by flying the aircraft but it was never fulfilled,”

He said the reason behind shutting down the air ambulance service three years back was the death of their chief pilot Captain Imtiaz. Moreover, he spoke about the test flight that will be conducted in two to three days. There had been a test flight earlier in the last week but was not approved by the Civil Aviation Authority due to some Technical problems in the aircraft.

Furthermore, he said, “We have tackled the issue in the aircraft and hopefully this week we will get approval to fly.”

Significance & Further Plans

Explaining the significance of the air ambulance, Faisal Edhi said that the air ambulance will help airlift serious patients to major cities during accidents and emergencies. “Precious lives can be saved through this service,”

Moreover, he said that adding this service is necessary for emergency situations. Especially in situations when road access is blocked due to earthquakes or floods.

In the case of emergencies, the service will be delivered free-of-charge. Moreover, it will charge PKR 70,000 to PKR 80,000 per hour in other cases.

He said that currently, they planned to buy single-engine Cessna Grand Caravan, a 14-seater aircraft. It will increase the fleet of their air ambulance service. Moreover, donations for this purpose have already been collected. However, he said that, being a single-engine aircraft, it would not be permitted to fly at night in Pakistan. Moreover, although the same aircraft usually flies in Europe and the United States.

Faisal added that the new aircraft will be added within a few months. That can be landed on roads in emergency situations and can transfer between six to 10 patients at a time.

Facebook Started Clean Up Process of Blasphemous Content

Facebook has started clean up process for blasphemous content posted. On Monday, In Islamabad High Court the case is discussed where Interior Ministry stated that As per Pakistan’s request Facebook administration began their process of removing such blasphemous content from site and now they have almost done with 85% removal of blasphemous content.

Interior Secretary Arif Khan reported that Facebook had responded to their letter and showed its willingness to remove content deemed blasphemous. He also notified that 27 Muslim countries ambassadors’ board are in connection with federal government to resolve the issue and evidently three persons are arrested, found involved in case.

Moreover he said that two of them are arrested with evidences as when the Law enforcers probe into case they have also found blasphemous content from laptops and mobile devices of suspects. Still the case is under investigation, he added.

When asked why the ambassador of the country from where the offence originated was not summoned, the interior secretary responded: “Our embassy in Washington has also taken up the matter [with the US government].” He emphasized that Facebook should not be banned because it is “not the solution of the problem”.

On the other hand, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Ismael Shah said a team is continuously working online to search blasphemous content. The team is including 25 members that has up till now processed against such 40 pages. He further added that Facebook administration seriously taken up the matter also “assured to comply with our demand”.

“Facebook agreeing to our demands is a big achievement,” the PTA chief said.

IHC Chief Justice Shaukat Siddiqui responded with applause for the government fto taken a serious step as they hosted a meeting of 27 envoys of Muslims countries in order to resolve the matter.

However Justice Siddiqui was not comfortable with the performance of the information ministry therefore he ordered IT Minister Anusha Rehman to answer that Why still the issue is left unsolved?

Next hearing of the case is decided to be on March 31. The court commanded all parties to come with their progress report
