History Behind Pakistan’s Cities Names – How they founded

Every person loves the country to which they belong. Pakistan is a beautiful country located in South Asia officially stated as the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Allah has blessed Pakistan with natural resources and places which increases the beauty and worth of it. As we love our country, it’s impossible that we don’t love the cities of our county. It is worth knowing Pakistan’s cities name history as everything that exists in this universe, have some history behind it.

Many people are unaware of the history of the name given to each city and I think every Pakistani should know about this. Do you know about the history? If No, then I am going to tell you about this.

  1. Bahawalpur:

Bahawalpur is considered as the 12th largest city of Pakistan and is located in Punjab province. This city is founded by Nawab Bahawal Khan and they associate the name of the city on his name. It was the first estate who affiliate with Pakistan after 1947 separation.

  1. Karachi:

Almost 220 years ago, it was the community of the fishers in the area of Abdullah Goth. First, it was named as Kolachi on the name of Baloch tribe Kalacho. Gradually, people change its name and convert it to Karachi. It was the first capital of Pakistan.

  1. Sargodha:

Sargodha is a combination of two word Sar and Godha. Sar is a Hindi word which means pond. Godha was a Faqeer who lives near the pond. Because of this correspondence, people called it godha wala Sar, after that it was named as Sargodha.

Gujranwala is one of the oldest city in north Punjab. It was founded by a JAT caste person Khan Shansi. He named this city as  “khan pur”. Later, people who migrate from Amritsar who were Gujar, change its name to Gujranwala.

This city was founded by the governor of Punjab, Sir James loyal, who associated the city’s name with his own name. After a long time, its name was altered to Faisalabad which means the city of Faisal for the honor of Martryed Shah Faisal of Saudia Arabia.

One of the most beautiful cities of Pakistan. It was originated by Rawal family and associate the name of the city with their family name.

Initially, It was called slums city because inhabitants of this city live in slums. This city was established by Raja Sarjal Siyal hence it is called jhugi Sial. Later people change its name to jhangi Sial then it is called Jhang.

  1. Quetta:

One of the largest city of Pakistan, located in the Baluchistan province. Its name originated from the word Qawata meaning fort. Later people change its name to Quetta.

The largest city of Pakistan located in the Punjab province and is the capital of Pakistan. One of the most beautiful and cleaned cities of Pakistan. This city is given the name Islamabad based on the Religion Islam.

2000 years ago, Raja Salkot led the base of this city. In the British government era, its name was declared as Sialkot. It is also called the city of Iqbal.

One of the historical and famous city of Pakistan in Lahore. There is much confusion about the name of this city. But no one can surely know about its name history.
